Ep. 293: Where the Wild Heals

Brandon Butler and Nathan “Shags” McLeod of Driftwoods Outdoors recently spent time with Kevin Rhodes, founder of B4 Outdoors media. 

Together, they shared stories from the field, discussed conservation and outdoor events for veterans, and explored how fishing and hunting provide opportunities that can restore purpose and build lifelong bonds.

Two sets of fathers and sons, all Clemson University alumni with servant hearts, have joined forces with B4 Outdoors media to create unforgettable hunting and fishing opportunities for South Carolina combat veterans. This past December, five men took part in a two-day hunt during deer hunting season, laying the groundwork for future outdoor events for veterans that promise even more memorable experiences.

In this episode, Kevin Rhodes speaks with the guys over at MyBowRush about providing 1st responders, veterans, and even the youth with outstanding hunting and fishing opportunities that truly set them apart from other outfitters. Aust and Cam chat with Kevin, the founder of B4 Outdoors, a remarkable non-profit organization in our neck of the woods dedicated to organizing outdoor events for veterans. B4 Outdoors specializes in providing valuable hunting and fishing opportunities specifically designed for veterans and first responders.

Welcome to The Colonel's Cabin at B4 Outdoors — a spacious 1,900-square-foot lodge set on 78 acres in prime big buck country, perfect for hunting and fishing opportunities. 

The main floor features a full kitchen equipped with a fridge, dishwasher, range, microwave, and even an antique wood stove, along with a dining area and a cozy living room boasting a 65" smart TV, where guests gather for meals and evening relaxation. Step out on the back porch to enjoy your coffee while overlooking the creek, where deer and turkey are frequently spotted.

Downstairs accommodations sleep 6 across 3 comfortable bedrooms, complete with a private bath and laundry. In 2024, this level was enhanced with new hardwood floors, fresh paint, and custom storage lockers that offer benches, shelves, and designated space for rifles and bows. This area opens onto a lit outdoor patio with boot dryers and also includes a private great room featuring DirecTV.

Guests are invited to swap hunting stories in a warm shed, equipped with a wood stove and propane heater, and enjoy additional amenities like RV hookups and free WIFI throughout the property. 

Outside, the beautifully maintained grounds include a graveled driveway, a split-rail fence, and a recently leveled front porch and staircase, making it an ideal spot for outdoor events for veterans.
